This place may not be what it seems.
Our province’s past is filled with colourful characters like Gabriel Dumont, a Metis military leader. I was always surprised he was able to move in and out of Batoche for days without getting caught after the Metis were defeated by the Canadian military in 1885.
Despite the illusion of peaceful surroundings, there is still a shadowy underworld on the Saskatchewan prairies.
No one seems to know how many individuals are involved or what they are doing. There are subtle movements and vague outlines but they magically disappear at the first sign of trouble. Who knows what sinister plots are being hatched in the darkness?
I wait. Then I see something moving on the water but it fades like a ghost into nearby bulrushes. I try to peer into the darkness and see nothing.
Eventually I seize the moment and take my photo. In a few seconds all signs of life have disappeared again. I think it’s the Gabriel Dumont effect.

Hi Lyle,
Beautiful light in the scene, and nice catchlights in the birdy’s eyes. Fab images all around! 🙂

As the sun was setting, the whole area was suddenly transformed. I love it when that happens.

I really like the middle photo, there is rich color in the reflection.
By the way, every time I go to type out the word “thoughts” I almost spell it like you do. I am almost a convert to your revolution. Almost.

Thanks. The setting sun really brought out the colors that day.
I will give myself a moral victory for getting inside your head to consider the new spelling. The next step is just around the corner.

Thanks. I had to push my imagination through a few ideas before I got this one. Not sure why this one was more difficult than the others.

I’ve acquired a habit of copying all your amazing captures. I now have a whole folder named Lyle’s Captures. Wait a minute, I never asked but if I could. Do I need to? 😛

I’m honoured that you think so highly of the photos. I don’t have any problem with enjoying the photos personally. Obviously if they were used by organizations or business that would be different.
