This water has moods.
I have been to this same spot many times. The water in front of me has attracted many creatures so I keep coming back. When I find myself alone, I occasionally make images of the beautiful scenes before me.
The water is often dark and foreboding, reflecting what it sees. It takes a better photographer than I to make something interesting with all that attitude.
On other occasions the water reflects the light and beauty around it and the entire place comes alive. Those are the good moods.

Thanks. The fall colours of the leaves really worked their magic. It’s funny because there are times it is a magical place and other times it is cold and uninviting – depending on what is there to reflect. And I keep going back.

Thanks. Me too. That whole red/orange hue really draws me in. When we went to Prince Edward Island a few years ago I was mesmerized by the all the red soil.

Oklahoma is known for it’s red dirt – it seems to change back to regular dirt as soon as you cross into another state,

I wonder what the creatures feel of the water in its many contemplations? I saw both a beaver and a heron at the water’s edge yesterday (not catching either on camera) and I feel the draw of the water myself. Lovely pics, Lyle.

Thanks. It’s funny because it there are times it is a magical place and other times it is cold and uninviting – depending on what is there to reflect. A time lapse is an unusual idea though these photos were taken in different seasons so that would be quite a time period.

How could I not like your reflections on reflections? The varied colors and the details in your photos are wonderful.
I think that reflections are a bit like memories. Sometimes the water is like a mirror and the reflections are an accurate representation of the object being reflected. At other times, though, the reality is altered–the colors are enhanced or muted, the details blurred or distorted. We try to capture what we see with our cameras, but we make so many choices when we make an exposure that it’s hard to know what “reality” really is–another photographer standing right beside you with identical equipment could come with a totally different take on the scene. Our eyes often serve as filters through which we see the world around us, just as our conscious and unconscious minds filter our experiences into memories.

You make some interesting philosophical points all gleaned from a few reflections. I agree with it all. When I first started into photography, I was trying to capture reality. Over time I began to realize that reality could be a slippery ideal especially when people don’t necessarily agree on what it is. Some photographers flatly refute that there is a reality and I find myself moving more in that direction.

Glad you liked it. The colour comes from leaves turning in fall and the green in the other photos from leaves in summer. That means I didn’t take any of the photos recently. We have had the latest spring I’ve ever remembered so you have nothing to be jealous of – the lakes are still frozen.

Water having moods. I hadn’t thought of it that way before, but those images are proof. What painters usually convey, here a photographer is able to catch the moods glancing about from these waters.
